Inspire and Be Inspired
College & Career Readiness Hybrid Program

What We Do
Since it’s inception in 2012, Scholar CC College and Career Readiness After-School Program has aspired to prepare and inspire students to pursue an education beyond high school. Whether higher education, community college, technical schools, entrepreneurship, apprenticeships, or the military.
Students with adults in their lives who have gone through the process of applying to college or technical school have support in navigating the education system. Yet many students who are new to the US or from families who lack information about college or career pathways—struggle. Our goal is to ensure that students who have completed our program are prepared exceptionally well for the college process and the workforce.
College and Career Readiness Club
- Group mentoring
- Scholarship assistance
- Standardized testing and college admission fee waivers
- FAFSA assistance
- SAT Tutoring
- Soft Skills Training
- Workshops on Financial Literacy, College Housing, DACA, College Admissions and more
- Mock Interviews
In addition, we bring outside professionals and motivational speakers to share inspiring stories and to provide important community resources to our students.
Virtual Sessions
Our online sessions are an extension of our After School Club. Virtual sessions allow us to reach students across the district! Students can log-in to attend weekly SAT tutoring or College and Career Workshops. Virtual mentees also have the opportunity to be matched with a mentor.
Group Mentoring
The program is also designed to give students the opportunity to be mentored by passionate mentors (college and career readiness coaches) who share similar academic and career interests. Students also receive one-on-one and group support from Scholar CC program staff, contract teachers, and community services.

Q: What does a Mentor do?
A: Mentors meet once a week with their mentee group for a minimum of an hour, participating in setting goals and the activity initiatives created by the program
Q: How do I become a mentor?
A: Attend a Mentor informational meeting, complete the application, secure 2 references, complete a national background check and participate in a virtual face-to-face interview. . Mentors will also be asked to agree to and sign our Mentor Standards and Guidelines.
Q: How do I get matched?
A: After successful completion of the application process, we look at students with common interests, needs that match your strengths and experiences, and your requested grade. At that point, we speak with the student that our team believes is the best fit and make the match.
Q: How long is my commitment?
A: We ask that the mentor and mentee commit to at least one program year (approximately 8 months) of meeting at a minimum of (1-2) hours weekly.
Q: How can I schedule meetings with my Mentee group?
A: Once you get to know your Mentee group and their personal commitments (work, sports, clubs etc.) you will be able to work together to coordinate a schedule that works best for everyone. If you plan on visiting your Mentee on campus, you can use the Program schedule to arrange your meetings. When mentoring virtually, some mentors have found it helpful to schedule (1) hour a week with the group and then 15-30 minutes of 1-on-1 time if a Mentee needs additional assistance. We understand that some weeks will be missed due to illness, schedule conflicts, holidays, and emergencies.
Q: What if I no longer feel that my Mentee/Mentor relationship is working?
A: There will be times when a mentorship match doesn’t work out for one reason or another. If the relationship cannot be realigned, the mentor and mentee may need to split ways. This does not indicate failure on either person’s part; rather, it simply recognizes that the match is not a fit. Speaking with the mentoring program manager, mentor, and/or mentee gives the program admin the opportunity to make sure that ending the relationship is right for the situation and helps with closing the relationship in a respectful way. Gathering feedback from the mentor and mentee to understand if there is anything that needs to change about the matching process going forward will also help improve the program overall.
Q: Do I have what it takes? What if I’m not sure I can do it?
A: Mentoring is a personal choice that can have a powerful impact. Students are looking for caring and authentic adults, not a perfect adult. Mentees want someone with an open mind who will be there for them, help them make informed decisions and offer patience. We’d love to have you join us for a mentor info meeting where you can find out more and talk with our team members. Feel free to call us anytime.
