The Scholar Career Coaching Mentorship program is designed to give students the opportunity to interact with caring adults like you, who share similar academic and/or career interests.
We provide the training and resources to help each Mentor connect with their Mentees while building a relationship that can last a lifetime. If you are a Professional, Community Leader, or Graduate-level Student, we need you on our volunteer team!
Each mentor is paired with 2-3 mentees for the school year. From October to April, Mentors will spend a minimum of 1-2 hours a week working with their mentee group. Whether it’s helping with setting up goals for the semester, providing organizational tips, creating a resume/cover letter, mock interview prep, exploring college and career options, finding and applying for scholarships, or being a listening ear, our Scholar CC Mentors play the role of a coach, motivator, supporter and friend.
Mentors have the opportunity of scheduling in-person meeting with their mentee(s) during the College and Career Readiness weekly cub sessions on campus.
During the weeks you are not meeting in person, you will meet virtually. You will work with your mentee group to determine your virtual meeting day and time.

By simply sharing your own experience you’re able to have a remarkable impact on a person’s future. Giving your time and knowledge to someone who might not have previously had access to your level of expertise can be hugely rewarding, especially when they achieve the results they hoped for.
As a mentor, you get to view and understand a problem through the lens of your mentee. It’s an opportunity to learn about yourself, the way you do the things you do, and areas you may still need to develop. You might also surprise yourself and pick up a few tips and tricks from your mentee that you might not have otherwise thought about!
Our Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon celebrates the hard work of our student scholars and the dedication of our volunteer mentors. We will be awarding scholarships and college laptops to deserving local high school seniors, celebrating our volunteers, and honoring our committed supporter

2023 Mentor Orientation
A link for Mentor Orientation will be sent via email. This Orientation is exclusively designed for Mentors who have successfully completed the interview, screening, and acceptance process for the Group Mentoring program.

2023 Mentor Training
Mentor Training will involve a self-paced course for your convenience. This course should be completed by the deadline of Friday, October 13.
Training is a requirement for all Mentors. After completing the Orientation, a training link will be sent to you via email. Please note that the training link will only be sent to Mentors who have successfully passed the interview and screening process and have been officially accepted into the program.
The self-paced training course is expected to take approximately 2 hours to complete.

Note: All students attending a Title I School in Palm Beach and Broward County are eligible to be matched with a Mentor and participate in our free Online Workshops and SAT Tutoring.
Mentors meet once a week with their mentee group for a minimum of an hour, participating in setting goals and the activity initiatives created by the program
Once your background check has cleared and we have reviewed your references, a “Welcome” email will be sent to you with information regarding Mentor Orientation and Training.
After successful completion of the application and screening process, we look at students with common interests, needs that match your strengths and experiences, and your requested grade. At that point, we speak with the student that our team believes is the best fit and make the match.
We ask that the mentor and mentee commit to at least one program year (approximately 8 months) of meeting at a minimum of (1-2) hours weekly.
Once you get to know your Mentee group and their personal commitments (work, sports, clubs etc.) you will be able to work together to coordinate a schedule that works best for everyone. If you plan on visiting your Mentee on campus, you can use the Program schedule to arrange your meetings. When mentoring virtually, some mentors have found it helpful to schedule (1) hour a week with the group and then 15-30 minutes of 1-on-1 time if a Mentee needs additional assistance. We understand that some weeks will be missed due to illness, schedule conflicts, holidays, and emergencies. Speaking with the mentoring program manager, mentor, and/or mentee gives the program admin the opportunity to make sure that ending the relationship is right for the situation and helps with closing the relationship in a respectful way. Gathering feedback from the mentor and mentee to understand if there is anything that needs to change about the matching process going forward will also help improve the program overall.
There will be times when a mentorship match doesn’t work out for one reason or another. If the relationship cannot be realigned, the mentor and mentee may need to split ways. This does not indicate failure on either person’s part; rather, it simply recognizes that the match is not a fit. Speaking with the mentoring program manager, mentor, and/or mentee gives the program admin the opportunity to make sure that ending the relationship is right for the situation and helps with closing the relationship in a respectful way. Gathering feedback from the mentor and mentee to understand if there is anything that needs to change about the matching process going forward will also help improve the program overall.
Mentoring is a personal choice that can have a powerful impact. Students are looking for caring and authentic adults, not a perfect adult. Mentees want someone with an open mind who will be there for them, help them make informed decisions and offer patience.
